Why can't I connect my Ipad Air (3rd generation) to my Apple Pencil (1st generation)?

Why can't I connect my Ipad Air (3rd generation) to my Apple Pencil (1st generation)? When I plug the pencil into the Ipad, the apple pencil does not show up in the bluetooth settings. I'm almost positive these two are compatible with each other.

iPad Air, iPadOS 13

If you have not already updated to iPadOS 13.6, you should do so - as this update resolves difficulties with the Air3.

iPad Air3, with iPadOS 13.5.1 installed, has an issue which interferes with successful pairing and operation of the Apple Pencil.

If you really do have the iPad Air 3 and the 1st generation Apple Pencil, they are compatible. I have both device and they work fine together.

I would recommend updating to iOS 13.6 if you haven’t done so already. There is a bug in iOS 13.5.1 that causes the two devices to not connect at times.

If you are running iOS 13.6, try the suggestions in here from ApplesAreUs
