im having the same issue, did you resolve this

My 10th generation ipad (2022) has a USBC connector that is the same size on both ends. Neither end will fit into the apple pencil adapter. The ipad charging cable is too big for the adapter. I am using the adapter that apple shows on their website. Now what?
The first generation Pencil is charged from iPad10 using the iPad charging cable - and an Apple USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter:

New first generation Pencils now ship with an adapter in the box with the Pencil, although some older stock purchased from retailers may lack the new special adapter - instead having included and older Lightning to Lightning adapter.
If your new boxed Pencil has the incorrect adapter, the correct adapter can be purchased directly from Apple as an accessory.
If you just purchased a 10th gen iPad you needed to purchase the $9 U.S.D. USB-C to Lightning, 1st gen Apple Pencil adapter found here.
USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter - Apple
The sooner you purchase this adapter, the sooner you can start charging, pairing and using your 1st gen Pencil with your new10th gen iPad.
Good Luck!
Still confused.
Did you purchase the proper adapter from Apple that is an additional purchase and costs $9 U.S.D.?
The one that Lotus Pilot and I already linked to above and that I am linking again, below?

This above adapter is the one you need to purchase and be using.
The adapter in the Apple Pencil box maybe the original Lightning to Lightning adapter which is the WRONG adapter to use with a new base model 10th gen iPad.
AND the cable that comes with the new base model 10th gen iPad has a USB-C connection on one end and the Apple Lightning connection on the other end.
The Adapter that you appear to have is the Lightning/Lightning adapter originally included with the first generation Apple Pencil - this being the wrong adapter for the iPad10.
New-stock first generation Pencils sourced from Apple should now ship with the newer USB-C to Lightning adapter in the box along with the Pencil. Some older stock, purchased from retailers, may lack the new USB-C to Lightning adapter - and will instead have an older Lightning to Lightning Adapter. The older adapter looks very similar (as shown in your photo), but is not suitable to pair and charge the Pencil with your iPad10.
This change in the special adapters, included within the box, has caused a lot of confusion and disappointment for those that have purchased the iPad10.
For owners of older first generation Pencils, or for “old stock” new Pencils, the new special adapter can be purchased directly from Apple as an accessory.

Hi,
I also just got the 10th gen ipad and the first gen pencil. The pencil came with the USBC adapter but it seems like the ipad cables male adaptors are too big for the female USBC adapter. Any ideas on how to fix this?
DO NOT use the adapter that came in the box with your 1st gen Apple Pencil.
That adapter maybe an older Apple Lightning to Lightning adapter that is used with older iPad models that still use Apple's Lightning port.
If you purchased the actual $9 USB-C to Lightnng adapter, to pair and charge your 1st gen Pencil to the iPad, your charge cable needs to be connected by plugging in your iPad's USB-C to USB-C charging cable and plug the USB-C end of the Adapter into the USB-C loose end of the cable ans then plug the Apple Pencil into the Lightning end of the adapter.
To charge the 1st gen Pencil away from the iPad, plug your charging cable into the Apple power/charging block, take the other end of the USB-C cable, plug that USB-C end of the adapter into the loose end of your USB-C chargd cable and then piug your 1st gen Pencil into the Lightning end of this adapter.
You have to buy the original adapter from Apple. When they came out with the pencils it was prior to the 10 gen iPad with the usb-c. It sounds confusing since Apple doesn’t mention anything about it. Had the same problem with my daughter during Christmas. Therefore you need the lightning/usb-c adapter which can be found on Apple website
I just said I have the adapter. It does not fit.
I am using the charger that came with the iPad. My Apple Pencil, first generation, is too small for the lightning end of the adapter. I won’t click in.
Have you tried switching the adapter around the other way
One end is USB-C which is small.
The other end is Ligjtning.
Pretty easy to mix up the two.
Thanks! I did purchase the pencil from bestbuy, so that makes sense. Just ordered the new USBC adapter from apple directly!
Same!!! Any solution??
You have to buy the USBC adaptor that apple sells on their website. It looks like the one that the pencil comes with, but it’s not. They’re different.
