my text messages are coming through on my computer. But so are other members of my family. we all use the same Apple ID account. is there any way to only receive and send message from my phone number? Help please.

Notifications go... everywhere, or to the most recently-active user and then to everywhere.
Use unique Apple IDs for each person, as mentioned above.

you each need to use your own Apple ID's. They are not meant to be shared as a family.

The system is working as intended.
When you share an AppleID, you share one single account for each Apple service. There is zero privacy or separation of data when sharing accounts for Apple services. Everybody logs in the same as everybody else, and everybody sees everything everybody else does. Everybody also has the same user privileges to add, delete or alter anything in those Apple services accounts.
The system only knows the AppleID logging in. It has no way of knowing which person is using that AppleID.
