Laptops crashing when using Google Hangouts video conferencing

Macbook Pro and Macbook Air both crashing (the entire computer crashes, not just the app) when Google Hangouts is used. This has been tested on different Google accounts. Chrome is updated as is the iOS. Turning off the hardware acceleration in Chrome didn't fix the issue.
