• Try Using: the Display Settings on your Mac. See if you need to change the resolution.
• Reset your SMC and your NVRAM: Sometimes changes are made to the system and then settings (i.e. for the microphone) become manipulated, technically. So, reset both on your Mac.
• Restart your Mac: With all settings having been made, restart the Mac.

If nothing works, and seems to be non-user-friendly, then provide Apple Support some feedback on this. They may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more likely things with change in future updates and macOSs to come.
