I've just transferred from Android, and my Samsung alarm app allowed me set a date for an alarm. I cannot figure out how to do this on the iPhone. It can't possibly be that I have to set the alarm on the day it's to ring.

You can’t set an alarm in the clock app to ring on a future date. You need to set up a reminder with a future date and time.
