Stop MacBook Pro from turning on when any key is pressed

I just had a situation where I needed my 2019 16" MacBook Pro to turn off and STAY OFF. It kept booting up again whenever I touched the keyboard, and I would really like to know if there's a way to disable this behavior. I only want it to turn on when I tell it to turn on, which I would indicate by pressing the power/Touch ID button specifically, rather than by pressing any other key or the trackpad.

Why it's important: A cup full of liquid was overturned in proximity to my MacBook Pro, and I was unsure if anything had splashed into vulnerable areas of the computer. I immediately shut it down, and as I was wiping it off (and happened to apply pressure to some random keys with a paper towel), it started back up. I pressed and held the power button to turn it off again, started wiping it again, and it booted again. This happened at least three or four times, and ended up with me shouting at the computer that if it valued its life, it would STAY TURNED OFF. (It didn't.)

This is literally a safety issue for the hardware. Is there any way to stop this automatic reboot from happening any time it gets touched?
