how can I crop the picture so it's just a headshot?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.14

Either move in closer to the camera and retake the photo or export the photo to the Desktop, import into a Photos library and crop the photo to the size you want. Then you can export the edited version to the Desktop from the Photos library. Or you can use a 3rd party image editor on the file on the Desktop and crop and save.
