iMessage and FaceTime Activation problem

So I logged in to iMessage on my iPad Mini 2 hoping that the messages on my iPhone 6s Plus would carry over to my iPad as well but that didn’t happen and now iMessage and FaceTime on my phone can’t be activated. I can’t FaceTime anymore but I’m still able to receive and send messages on my phone. However they send as a “text message” (aka green bubble). I don’t know how to fix it.

I think my iMessage account is now based on my iPad or something??I checked under my iPad Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and it says I can receive iMessages to and reply from my Apple ID but I can’t uncheck it or add my iPhone number

Have you tried turning on the iMessage entry (slider) at the top of the screen shot?

You need to change the number on your Apple ID. After the change, allow up to 24 hours for the change to sync. Before trying to make the change, sign out of Messages/FaceTime on all devices/computers.

I've tried to turn on the iMessage entry slider at the top of the screen but it would immediately turn back of and say "Activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again."

However maybe I just need to wait 24 hours for the change to sync like you said. I'll sign out of all my devices and try it again
