Apple Watch on PCAndroid User
I want to buy an Apple Watch 3 (38mm) and want to know a few details before I do. Can I use the Apple Watch 3 and control all its functions, updates, settings, using the OS in the Watch and my Apple ID at Apple.com to access the Apple Store for apps, and to set up other features, without having an iPhone to assist with downloads, setting, and programming? It seems like I can, but I want to be sure before I buy, that I can keep the Watch updated, change my settings (i.e. clock faces and other user settings) and also add Apps to my watch (i.e. Compass is one I would definitely use), without using an iPhone? There is really no need, given this situation, for me to buy a cell-enabled watch, but I would like to have the GPS feature. Also, when I am charging the watch, is there a way to use it as a bedside clock, and have it display the time in "Always On" mode while charging, if I stand it upright/vertical? I realize that I will not be able to read my emails or receive my text messages on the watch, or synch it with my Android cellphone, and there may be a few other things that require a connection to an iPhone that I will not be able to do--not sure what those unavailable features are. I have a friend who uses all Apple devices, and am hoping that she can help me set up my Apple Watch 3 when she comes down for the winter season. Given this situation, is there any reason why I would want to buy a Series 4 or Series 5 Watch, would it give me any new features since I don't have an iPhone to synch it with? Please advise this Apple Watch newbie!
