Unable to disable notification banners after Catalina upgrade

I noticed after I upgraded my Catalina ios to 10.15.6 I haven't been able to make notification changes for certain applications (for both Apple applications and other applications that I've downloaded).

The notification I primarily want to disable are the alert banners for Messenger, because they're distracting. Within the notification setting for Messenger, banners is selected by default, and all the other options are grayed out, and thats where I'm unable to change anything. I'm not even able to disable all notifications entirely

Again, this applies to a number of different applications (messages, maps, excel, outlook, chrome). All the settings are set to enable Banner alerts, and I'm unable to change anything else to what is grayed out.

There's only a few applications where this doesn't apply (calendar, wallet, slack), and I'm able to make whatever changes I'd like

Am I overlooking something here? It's driving me crazy!

Any solutions?

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities rascon.christina,

We see that you're unable to make changes to your Notifications settings after updating the software on your Mac. We certainly understand wanting to make these changes, and we'd be happy to help.

We were able to test this and we able to make the necessary changes to the Notifications settings. With that being said, since your settings are grayed out, let's check to see if you have any restrictions enabled on your Mac. The article below can help.

Set up content and privacy restrictions in Screen Time on Mac

If you do not see any restrictions, create a test user and test to see if the issue remains.

Let us know how this goes and if the issue remains.
