text pasting while typing on macbook pro

Hello, I just bought a new MacBook pro a couple of weeks ago. I haven't used a Macbook in 5 years, so everything is brand new to me. I definitely have not used macbooks with the digital display on the keyboard before (you know, that strip above the number keys and things will appear on it's own like emoji's or whatever). I noticed while typing in word, the digital display on my keyboard will light up with something and then word will paste in whatever is in my clipboard while I'm typing. It's almost like I'm hitting a key that calls this up, and then the next key I press it pastes text. It happens mid-stream while I'm typing fast, so I don't know what key's I'm hitting. I'm definitely not hitting command-V, I know enough about Macs to know that. Is there another key that will do this? In general I find the digital display on the keyboard distracting and extremely unhelpful, so if there is a way to disable that as well, i would be all over it. But I have to solve this mysterious text pasting thing, as it's slowing me down.

DSMGDESIGN,

Thanks for those additional details about your issue with the Mac.

Since this only occurs within the Word app, you can reach out to the app developer for further assistance with it. Check out this resource: How to contact an app developer

Specifically, check out the steps in the section listed below:

"For apps on your Mac

Open the App Store on your Mac. Make sure that you're signed in with the Apple ID that you purchased or downloaded the app with. If you didn't get the app from the App Store on your Mac, read about how to contact a third-party developer.

Search for the app, then click it. Or to find the app in your purchases, click the sign-in button or your photo at the bottom of the sideba, then find the app and click it.

On the right side of the window, click the app's support link. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then click App Support. If you don't see App Support, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID."

Cheers!

I wasn't looking for someone to pass the buck. I was looking in the community to see if anyone else is having the same problem. I've never had this happen on any of my PC laptops, and I've had several, this only happens on the mac. And, it's a brand new mac and brand new installation of word. It's very weird. Word is still typing on its own, deleting stuff that I typed, and making it downright frustrating to work.

After I posted this, I figured out how top "disable" the Touch Bar so to speak so that only the F-keys show. However, text is still randomly pasting in while I'm typing. It happens mostly in Word, but that's because that is where I am doing most of my typing. I'm def not pressing anything on the Touch Bar, and I'm also not pressing Control-V. But it still happens. Can you help?

Hey there DSMGDESIGN,

It sounds like you've got a question regarding the Touch Bar on your MacBook Pro, and we'd like to share a resource that might help.

Learn more here: How to use the Touch Bar on your MacBook Pro

You'll want to specifically review this detail in regard to options in third-party apps:

"Most apps, including most third-party apps, include shortcuts, tools, and controls in the Touch Bar for the tasks that you want to do. Tap around to see what you can accomplish quickly and easily."

Also, review this section for how to customize the options:

"Customize your Touch Bar

In many apps, like Finder, Mail, and Safari, you can customize the Touch Bar.

Choose View > Customize Touch Bar. The customization window appears on your display, allowing you to choose your favorite items:

When you're customizing the Touch Bar, its buttons jiggle. Use your cursor to drag items that you want from the display down into the Touch Bar.

You can also drag items left and right within the Touch Bar to rearrange them, or drag them up and out of the Touch Bar to remove them. Click Done on the screen when you finish."

We hope this helps!
