Airplay

can you use Airplay between a MacBook Air and an Ipad (6th Gen), using Wifi generated from Iphone? If so, my MacBook Air leaves me no option to turn on AirPlay, using wireless or even direct connect with lightning cable.

Airplay will never work between your iPad and your MacBook Air. AirPlay only works with the Apple TV Device and other Televisions that are AirPlay capable.

What you may be interested is in ➔ SideCar. What you need is an iPad (6th Generation or newer) and you have this. You need macOS Catalina and you have this as well. You need a MacBook Air model 2018 or later and this I am not sure if you have because you didn't disclose that information.
