I just got an iPad Air (3rd Generation) and a 1st generation apple pencil. However, I'm having difficulty pairing them. My Bluetooth on my iPad won't pick up the pencil at all. However, my phone is able to identify the pencil just fine. To be safe, I turned off the Bluetooth on all my other devices, made sure the two were compatible and made sure the wifi signal was strong. It still won't pair. Does anyone have any advice?

If you have not already done so, you must update to iPadOS 13.6.
iPadOS 13.5.1 had a bug that interferes with both pairing and operation of the Apple Pencil. iPadOS 13.6 resolves the problem.
