iWatch series 4 receives text messages but does not give haptic notification.

Wondering if something is wrong with my iWatch. It receives text messages fine. But I often don’t notice when they’ve come in because there’s no notification. I’ve set all notifications to “On” via my iPhone. Wondering if the watch is supposed to give you a physical notification (a beep or buzz) when text messages are received? Thanks!
