Safe Mode

I was wondering I restarted my iMac and got to safe mode. I tried a few programs and it did work. My question is that can I run my whole day in safe mode? Everything seemed fine just wanted to know if I can keep it in safe mode anyway and will it hurt to use it in safe mode? I am still in Mojave did not update to Catalina ye? Wondering if will do the same in Catalina if I can use it in safe mode as well?

Thank you all for your help.

Safe Boot mode is not a substitute for running your Mac all day. If you are having issues, I would advise you to resolve those issues. Safeboot mode allows you to trobleshoot...

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc. Login and test. Reboot and test as caches get rebuilt.

In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc hampering smooth operation, however a reboot will put it back to normal mode.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

One other question is it best to do a first aid from the disk utility or better of doing a safe mode? Just wondering would fix any issue better?

Disk Utility see no difference here, preboot allows for repair however— the difference is running the Disk Utitlity.app from Recovery, only in this way you can unmount the problem Volume to effectively and repeatably repair that Volume beyond SafeBoot.

Boot into Recovery (Command R) and from the dropdown menu: Utilities>  Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD (and the "Macintosh HD-Data" volume as well if Catalina) If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported—this is a vital part that SafeBoot does not allow for.

The sequence of repair should be:

Volume(s)

Container

Parent Device

For erasing/reformatting/initializing this is effectively done from Internet Recovery
