New iPhone isn’t compatible with my carrier

I just bought a new iPhone SE and I want to switch it over to my boost mobile account but it says it’s not compatible. I don’t see how that is so when the iphone is brand new unlocked and from the apple store it hasn’t had a previous carrier. What do I do? Return it and get a phone through boost? That seems like the only option.
