Air buds won't play

My air buds won't play. I can pair with them. I can see their battery levels. I can see the case. I can see the case battery level. When I play music, there's no sound, and the player pauses after a few seconds. I followed all recommendations for resetting them, and the case. I tried with 2 iphones, and 2 ipads.
