Pages 10.1 software won't let me turn off italics

A couple of days ago, the keyboard shortcut for Helvetica Neue 12 point italics in my Pages 10.1 software stopped allowing me to switch between italics and regular text. I was in a hurry, so I started using the text control panel to switch between the italics and regular font instead. Then Pages stopped allowing me to deselect italics in the control panel for Helvetica Neue, and I was stuck in italics. So I tried switching to a different font size, and Pages allowed me to use the keyboard shortcut for italics for 14 point Helvetica Neue, but not for 12. I can write everything in 14 point font and then select it all and change it to 12 and keep the italics and plain text, but it'd be nice to be able to work in the 12-point font I prefer. (Italics and italic shortcut work fine in Scrivener and in MS Word for the same font on the same MacBook Air, just not in Pages.)

Hey there, Mountain_pinniped!


It sounds like you're struggling with the Pages app in version 10.1 and being unable to use other formats, except italics. We've got some helpful suggestions for you.


First, we'd check if this happens when adding text to other documents in Pages. Does it only happen with that specific document or all documents?


If it happens with just that one document, highlight the text you wish to remove the italic format, then use the shortcut Command + I to remove the format to regular text.


If it occurs with multiple documents, make sure you've got the most recent macOS version for your software: How to update the software on your Mac


Then reinstall the Pages app: How to delete apps on your Mac then you can download it again from the App Store: Redownload apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books under section, "Redownload apps."


In case that doesn't resolve this, we may need to test if this happens in another administrator account on the Mac. This helps us to determine if its user specific. Here's How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac


Should it continue to occur, let us know the results when you test Pages in another user on the Mac and we'll take it from there.
