Frustration With Fonts

OS 10.13.6

Pages 7.3

I am having some frustration with fonts in Pages. What I do is to select a font from 'Paragraph Styles' and change it to what I want, then I update the style, rename it and go ahead writing my document. Sometimes (but not every time) when I start a new paragraph I have to select the style again because it changes by itself to some other default setting I don't want. That's an inconvenience but at least my style is still available to quickly change it back. My bigger frustration is that the next time I open Pages my changes to the style are not there and I have to do it all over again. I have searched through Pages Preferences and can find nothing there to set my preferred font defaults other than the size. Is there anything I can do to set it so my preference is available every time I open Pages?

If by "every time" you mean in any new document that you begin from scratch, yes. Modify a blank pages template and then select File > Save as Template

As for the paragraph styles. Those should retain within your document. It's possible that if you began with a blank template, or other template, there is some "hidden code" on the document forcing a different paragraph style. It's also possible that you are forgetting to update a selected style or you make updates that negate your original changes.

I use Pages a lot, and tried to recreate your issue, but was unsuccessful.
