iPhone won't connect to Mac

Hello.

I have an iPhone and I'm trying to connect it to my Mac to download songs from my Mac to my phone. Both the Mac and phone have all the latest updates. iTunes is up to date on both. When i connect it with a usb cable it charges but the Mac doesn't recognize the device. The phone never shows up.

What can i do to fix this? And is there another way to download my songs to my phone?

Thanks.

iPhone X, iOS 13

Indeed those are the latest versions, thanks.

Be certain your iPhone is unlocked when you connect it to your Mac. Be aware that with MacOS Catalina, which you have, Finder is used to sync the IPhone.

Well, there is clearly a problem that is amplified in your description.

This is not possible. The current Mac operating system, MacOS Catalina, does not have an iTunes app. It has a Music app, but this app does not directly interact with any iPhone.

So I suggest you provide software version numbers instead of saying “up to date.”
