MacBook Pro overheating and drained battery due to apple mail app

For the last 10 days or so my MacBook Pro is running very hot and the battery is draining very quickly. The fans are running constantly and it gets extremely warm. I've isolated the problem to the Apple Mail app since it showed up on the CPU and don't have the problem when I close the app.

I'm running Catalina 10.15.6. I'm assuming this problem is a result of the latest update as I wasn't having any problem before. Everything is up to date.

Is there a fix? If not I will need to look for a different email app. It's not convenient work wise to have my mail app closed.

It looks like the problem has been solved by simply moving to another email client. I installed Airmail and connected all four of my email addresses; 3 gmail accounts plus my iCloud email. All accounts using iCloud as I've always used them. All of my email files are showing up and working just fine. No crazy constant fans running, MacBook Pro heating up and major battery drainage as was happening the last week +. Yesterday was so out of control that I had to have it fixed before the week began.

I'm just using the free version of Airmail and don't really see a need for anymore features at this point. Relieved to have gotten this solved so easily. I could not have waited for whatever fix is needed.

"...I use iCloud with my gmail accounts..."

Good luck with that! Phew!

If you cannot find a remedy then another email client would be a good move. You will need Mail app to have a minimum of one account so you can set the default email app to your new one. Then you can clear your Mac Mail.

When I did it I deleted my ~/Library/Mail/V7 folder and ad many Mail related files as I could find.

PS I use Outlook in MS365

There is a pro version for $10/ year but I couldn't find any comparison of what that adds. I'm pretty basic with my emails other than having a pretty elaborate list of file folders.

Yes, I've been trying to make sure that my emails aren't going into any of the numerous extra files that are listed. I usually find the simpler set up is easier overall. I don't want to think I missed something because it automatically went somewhere else.
