In Logic, I would like to be able to have the midi notation from one midi track viewable in a window so that I can read it while recording new midi into a different track.

Make sure to set the Link Button in the standalone Score Editor Window to off. Otherwise the Score Editor shows the content of whatever Region/Track is selected.
