restoring safari history from time machine back up. I tried the method as described on the internet, but a message appears" Safari cannot be modified. It is required by MacOS" and the old history is not in the Safari History

Need to temporarily clear Safari History to test for a website problem Having a problem accessing certain items on a vendor website. They want me to empty my cache (which I did) and also clear my Safari History. I can't do that since I do research and depend on my history to look back on websites that I have accessed. Is there a way to copy the Safari History file and put it aside (or I guess just rename it). Then clear Safari History so I can run the test. Then do I copy it back to where it was and rename it back so I will have my Safari History back? Will clearing my Safari History also clear my Cookies? I just need to make sure I don't loose my Safari History.

Try entering Time Machine and go to a backup which had the history. Copy/paste the below into the search box at the top right. Restore all history.db files.

~/Library/Safari
