Siri disabled, cannot enable

MQ6G2B/A

13.5.1

iPhone 8

warranty valid through Dec 2020

Pressing home button does not activate Siri.

First step on Apple help, Siri or "Hey Siri" isn't working states:

Make sure that Siri is on

  • On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, go to Settings > Siri & Search and make sure that Listen for "Hey Siri", and Press Home for Siri or Press Side Button for Siri1 are turned on.

There is no 'Siri & Search' in the Settings. I think it was disabled and there's no way to enable.

I tried calling Apple Support call back - sure enough, got an incoming call a few mins later from 353 area code (Ireland), pressed button 1 and got pre-recorded message saying I'd reached an unknown number.

I have confirmed that Siri is not disabled in Restrictions.

You can check this by going to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps. Make sure that Siri & Dictation is allowed.

I realise that this is a community group, not monitored by Apple, which is why I would like to express frustration here among my peers – a frustration shared by countless others. Apple support is terrible and it's been getting worse.

Perhaps instead of attacking me and silencing me with a takedown for voicing despair on this forum, it would be an idea to have a community category for problems with Apple support?

I also realise it's a free market and, in the absence of any other recourse, I can take my business elsewhere. Of course, it's immensely difficult to overcome an inertia which comes with having spent so many years with this brand and learning how to use its products, effectively sealed into its ecosystem. Working 6 days a week and with a family doesn't leave much time to learn another language, in another country, like Android.

So, I'm a tiny speck up against a faceless corporate entity with a $1.3 trillion market cap!

What chance does a hapless taxpayer have against that?
