Podcast playback speed changes automatically

How can I lock the playback speed of podcasts? While the iPhone is in my pocket (which might be a factor), the playback speed shifts from normal speed to double speed, or 1/2 speed, even though the screen is locked. It's extremely annoying. I can manually return the speed to normal, but it is only temporary.

I have turned the phone off and back on to get the function back on my lock screen before and now that isn't working. This has been happening since I bought the phone. I really would like someone from apple to explain why this keeps happening and what can I do to get the podcast controls back on my lock screen without having to turn my phone off and on or resetting my phone. Apple should have a better way with dealing with this issue.
