Mail 2FA Authentication fails - Office 365

Hi

i have an Exchange mailbox with Microsoft in which 2FA is turned on and requires re-authenticating every two weeks. My iPhone & iPad are not requesting re-authentication (which all three devices normally do at the same time), yet the Mac is throwing up an authentication error after the password is entered, it does not move to the second stage code.

if I insert an incorrect password it states the password is incorrect, so having tried throughout the day at intervals I know the password is correct.

The error message is an Apple system Drop down message and not one displayed within the Microsoft window where the password is entered.

A simple resolution may be to remove and re-add the account, but thought I’d ask the question just in case anyone has a simple answer I’m just overlooking or just not putting my brain in to gear?

many thanks

We would recommend removing and readding the mail account to your computer.

Add or remove email accounts in Mail on Mac
