Optimizing Apple Music storage

I currently have 30GB of storage being taken up by downloaded music from Apple Music.

If I go to Settings > Music > Optimize Storage and hit the 16GB option, will my iPhone delete half of my music completely or just simply remove the download of each song so they would still be in my library?

iPhone XS Max, iOS 13

Hello Andrew979,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We understand from your question that your music library is taking up a lot of space on your device. We can certainly help you with this!

When you delete these off of your phone, they will not be removed from your library, the songs will just be un-downloaded from your device. This means you are unable to listen to these songs if you are not connected to the internet since they are no longer downloaded.

Add and download music from Apple Music or buy music from the iTunes Store

We hope this is able to resolve your issue. If you have any more questions or this does not resolve your issue, please reach back out on the thread!

Cheers.
