Plugin external monitor makes the mouse tugs | MBP 16" Catalina 10.15.6

Hi everyone,

I have a frustrating problem and have read dozens of forum posts about it but still haven't solved my problem.

When I connect external monitor (27" iiyama 4k) via DP-USBC cable the cursor starts to "tugs/jumps" on the screen while moving. I tried connect monitor via hdmi-usbc but its even worst, monitor has problem with connect ("no signal" error) and when it finally connects the problem with cursor is the same.

I have good quality cables, zero system-intensive processes, the computer is brand new, the monitor is new. I checked on other monitor (also iiyama 27" but 3k model) and it was the same.

Here is a movie how it looks like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPqSTzY8d9Q

I also have an old Macbook Air with Mojave and everything is perfect there on any monitor. So that's why I think it may be Catalina problem.

I would be very grateful for any suggestions on what else I could do.

Thomas_st,

We appreciate you following up with us on this issue! Let's try doing an NVRAM reset on that device as well: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

If the issue continues from there we recommend reaching out to the display manufacturer to see if they have heard any reports of this issue as well.

You can also reach out to our direct support lines to have them assist in further investigating the issue from there: Get Support

Have a great rest of your day!

Hello Thomas_st!

It looks like you are having some trouble with your mouse stuttering and lagging when connecting a second display and we want to get that issue taken care of. Are you using an adapter to convert those cables from DisplayPort and HDMI to USB-C and connect the second display? If so, you may want to check to make sure that the adapter is not limiting the resolution or refresh rate of the second display, as that can cause this type of issue.

You can also follow the steps in this article to make sure the display is set to the default resolution: Get help with video issues on external displays connected to your Mac

Checking with the monitor's manufacturer is also a good idea to see if there are any drivers you can download that may help resolve the issue.

Let us know the results of those steps and we can go from there. Take care!

Hi,

thank you for reply!

Are you using an adapter to convert those cables from DisplayPort and HDMI to USB-C and connect the second display?

No, I have Unitek USB3.1 type-c to display port cable, with DP1.2 standard and 4k 60Hz resolution support.

You can also follow the steps in this article to make sure the display is set to the default resolution: Get help with video issues on external displays connected to your Mac

I checked it but the default resolution sets monitor in FHD and this is not a resolution that satisfies me on UHD monitor and MBP with 5500 8GB RAM Radeon, besides thats change nothing, cursor still stutters.

Checking with the monitor's manufacturer is also a good idea to see if there are any drivers you can download that may help resolve the issue.

Checked, there is no additional drivers for the monitor and the monitor works fine with others computer.

I have turned computer on safe mode and the problem is gone but after restart again the same. So, I removed all programs from background also downloaded and installed macOSUpdCombo10.15.6 and still nothing. Also I checked other mouse (also Apple bluetooth mouse).

I would appreciate any additional tips.
