Apple TV HD buffering

I have just bought new iMac retina 5K 27inch 2019,3ghz 6 core intel core i5, 16gb ram, os catalina 10.15.6 and a new apple tv hd and now have severe buffering problem, movies stop and start and the time line stays on the bottom of the tv screen with spinning wheel next to time which doesn't change even if movie is playing. Question is have I done something wrong with setup (I have gone through out all again and checked for updates) or just coincidence and I have a network problem and maybe need a new modem?

Those symptoms point to an issue within the network.

Verify current internet connection using speedtest app on Apple TV

Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - network)

If on wifi try ethernet

To see a current status of the network get a report from istumbler or similar. Look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks

I’m assuming the first one on that list is your network, everything looks good there. Ultimately the 2.4ghz band will have better range but is more prone to interference because many devices use that frequency, where the 5GHz band has less range but is more reliable. Network issues can come at any time, so this device may have just picked up on existing issues or the interference could have intensified. Anyway, if turning 2.4 off worked then let’s just leave it at that. If anything further occurs we can review things at that time. Glad to help

Thanks for your help I will attach screen shot of istumbler, I'm afraid it'd mostly double dutch to me. I did find in modem settings that 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz were both on so I turned 2.4 off and its looking like problem could be solved. Do you think that could have been the problem? I had no problems until getting apple TV HD (upgrade from gen 3) and catalina.

Thanks again much appreciate any help, us oldies struggle a bit with technology.
