iMac problems!!!

I purchased a brand new iMac from the Apple website 30 days ago. I am now regretting this decision. My windows PC was 8 years old and it ran better than this. For example, the iMac kept locking up throughout the day to where I had to reboot. I determined this was due to me installing antivirus software as when I uninstalled it the problem went away.

Next, the mouse kept freezing up. I tried the Magic Mouse, my Logitech mouse and the track pad. All three would not move. Again I had to power off and back on to get the mouse working again.

This morning another problems. I had Safari open and when I closed it the iMac starting making this weird sound almost like a knocking or a clicking. When I opened Safari back up the sound went away. I did this again and the same thing. I shut down the iMac and still have this problem. The weird thing is the sound only happens when Safari is closed.

I am about ready to sell this and get a MacBook Pro or go back to windows.

RitaWO,

I was going to suggest that you do an erase and install. First verify your backup is working. Next, restart in the Recovery Partition (Command + R on startup) then:

  • Open Disk Utility.
  • Erase the drive.
  • Quit Disk Utility,
  • Install Mac OS to the drive.
  • Restart the computer and it will appear as new.
  • Use your backup to restore your data and then manually install your apps.

And by the way it is having even more problems. Has become very slow and is opening tabs all by itself in safari. siri even opened up by itself. I'm not sure what is going on. At this point I wonder if resetting this back to factory settings would be best. It is only 30 days old and the only thing I really have on it at this point are photos which are backed up already.
