I’ve changed provider and kept my number. My phone is using the old number for this sim (the one before my actual number transferred) for messages and iMessages. How do I sort this?

I’ve tried this but the phone number it comes up with will not let me edit it in any way - it is greyed out. My actual number is not there at all. Every time I send messages to people it sends three times too.
I think my 13 year old son has solved it 😐
My son resolved his by turning off iMessages, resetting network settings and turning it back on. This does not work for mine.
