where do the settings of your screen at boot come from.

Hi

i am trying to find where your Macbook gets the settings, in how it should show its screen when the boot starts up.

i noticed when my computer starts, after e few seconds the way the screen looks changes .

it looks like there is a setting or a program that comes in when the boot starts and changes the way your display looks .

the look is kind of a more blurry not that detailled look, like there is some sort of filter over the screen. quiet annoying!

this problem has started when I opened files downloaded from a torrent site years ago. and doesn't seem to go away with a clean install.

it shows on both my old MacBook 2007 and MacBook Pro 2019.

and finally got it fix on my pro when changing the logic board .

is there any way a could reset the boot settings back to original . maybe reinstalling a boot system?

or find out if there is a command running that is not original.

many thanks for any help !

I have run etre-check . with report below. it shows heavy usage of cpu, and some unassigned files. . hope this clears something out.

using malware bytes . I didn't seem to be able to scan deeper then the usual scan when running the program .

was not able to select what to scan . and it finished in 3 secs. 9000 files

should I run it again ? differently?

p.s. I do sometimes have a red square around the apple log when booting.

many thanks again!!

Hm. If malware bytes isn't finding anything, there's nothing to find. The red square on startup is a cosmetic glitch that Apple is supposed to have fixed. TBH, I have problems with the red buttons on the Finder window - they leave tails on the dark display so my bet is that Apple have not proofed the dark UI rendering as well as they could have and we are seeing that.

As to the unusually high processes that EtreCheck found.. it may be linked to that unsigned software that you have installed? You can use Activity Monitor and set it to All Processes (hierarchically) and see what is using the CPU.

If it's a daemon, it will always run so find the program that it was installed by and see if others online have discovered how to limit the process. (Things like Google KeystoneUpdateAgent daemon are EVIL!!!)

hello Deborah, and maybe other help,

I checked the activity on my Mac . the thing that uses most cpu is _windowserver from more then 30 to around 5 - 2,5 when to computer is around 5 minutes on. not really a problem I think cause it actually peaks when having something open .

as its related to how programs are visible on your screen, that's normal then I guess .

I checked again with etrecheck, and the high cpu usage is now gone . only the 2 unassigned files are still there . one is crashreport ( from apple?? ) and the other is related to the app Steam . but that's only the legit app whiteout any games installed .

I am only still frustrated cause there is definitely something strange going on with my screen. more clear now then before.

i have been riding bike all day so I was quiet relaxed and as soon as I turn my computer on you see and even sense something is wrong. I slightly tremors vibrates pulses and there are like shadows over the screen ,it is not as clear as it should be for a Mac. I checked with a similar Mac yesterday.

there is definitly something programmed or changed in how my display shows it screen. and it is not removed when doing a clean install :(

Does maybe you or somebody else still now where I could look for: files, command's , settings ,... related to possible display alteration ?? 🥴

I little bit desperate , from this deliberate destruction of my display visuals.

Already many thanks for your help and time!!

Hi Deborah ,

thanks for your reply again.

it could be that signal “Ingres” intrusion.

only the logic board and even the display has been changed By Apple repair . And hardware check result didn’t show anything.

could such an signal intrusion come from a change in settings or implementing of kind of program .

like deliberately messing op your display

( maybe in the graphics card , but that would go away with resetting de nvram then ?)

I still really think it is implemented Expres , due to opening Bad files ( video and sort of text) downloaded from this torrent :(

as the screen changed directly after opening on both my old MacBook as on the new one .

could Still that message in system.log : “ Apple logo is not an Apple logo ....” mean something is fishy in my boot ?

I know it’s all very far sought.

are there other Thrustworthy places on the net to maybe look further. Or is that not a good idea ?

many thanks for you time and effort!

greets

Hello Deborah ,

thanks!!

i will try a reboot from usb and full erase of ssd with a usb made on that friends mac. Fingers crossed.

little question? reformating happens automaticly when pushing the erase button ? cause i didn't seem to find that option.

I have made a system log from my macbook2007 . Could you still have a lock at that? maybe there is something more obvious in there. as i didn't had a decent clean install on that . and no logic board replaced.

The screen is still worse on that one. But running clamxav on it didn't show anything.

This thing is very strange it gets on my two macs . just by opening those files (or even attaching a storage device?) Even stranger is it actualy runs on a windows laptop to!! So is this 2 different files , codes . with the same kind of virus?

what do you mean by "private trackers"? i don't think i will quickly download a torrent again.

I will give a try on those other fora(ums) also if that usb still doesn't restore it.

Thanks for your help!!

kind greets!

Hello Deborah and all other,

I managed to makea bootable usb with catalina on *another* macbookpro. and have booted on my macbookpro from it . i ran osx recovery and erased the complete SSD, reformated and partitioned it.

I installed osx catalina from recovery mode . But i noticed the blurry and vibrating is going on whilest running the recovery mode ?? The new install of catalina didn't do the trick :(

I made a short video of it, and you see at the caracters, they seem to move strange "blurry" .

i also made a video of the desktop . and you see the pulsation of the screen.

You best look at it on a big screen not you mobile device.

link to the video's in wetransfer. https://we.tl/t-WxAgKLik1Y

hope this gives more any idea what's wrong.

many thanks for any help!!

Thank you for the update MRdontknowitall,

To erase your disk and reinstall the macOS, take a look at this helpful article under the "How to erase your disk" section:
