How do I rename a book in Apple Books in Catalina? Right-click or Edit don't list 'Rename" as an option.

The new Apple Books in Catalina lists my books like iTunes used to. (Well, sort of... it does, but not as well, as everyone seems to love to point out).

I have a book called, let's say, "The Book - A Novel". I want to rename it to "The Book" to makes its display on my CarPlay shorter. I used to be able to do this, but don't see how with Apple Books. (Or is it "iBooks"? Apple app names are becoming harder and harder to figure out or remember.)

Am I missing something? Or is Apple? ;)

You can't rename store books (by which I mean books purchased from the Apple Book Store) or audiobooks. You can rename non-store books and PDFs in by editing the Title field in list mode. You can enter list mode by the button on the left side of the toolbar (at the top of the app window) or through the app menu (View --> View As --> List).

I assume that's not going to help you a ton as you probably want to edit store books, but that's what's available.

I am running the latest Catalina, and am looking at my Audiobooks in List Mode. The audiobook in question was downloaded from my library, and I can still not edit the name.

It's really not a big deal, but I find this seriously strange after how flexible iTunes was. It's irritating how everyone just dissed iTunes as being "too big". Sure, what we have now is smaller, but only because there are fewer functions.

We can't change ANY parameters regarding file names or categories! Can't even GET INFO on any of them! It would appear that Apple is hiring all the fired MS programmers!
