Logic Pro X - Open Plugins in Controls View remains checked

After the last Logic Pro update I got a message asking if I wanted plugins to open in controls view. I clicked cancel but they keep opening in controls view. I keep unchecking the preference in Display Preferences but it won't stay unchecked. Some of my plugins won't even display their GUIs when I manually change the view within the plugin window so I'm left with unusable plugins.

I've tried trashing the Logic pref files with no change.

I guess I try deleting Logic and reinstalling but this is a serious annoyance!
