Nike Run Club app on watch and airpods not working together

When I am using the Nike Run Club app, the audio feedback only speaks through the watch speaker. It doesn't matter if I start the run on my phone or on my watch. I can start Apple music on my watch or phone and it plays through my airpods during my runs, but the NRC pace feedback will not play through my airpods. I have to hold my watch up to my ear to hear it. Any thoughts as to why NRC won't sync with my airpods?

I was having the same issue! When you open Spotify on your Apple Watch, in the bottom right corner it has either a phone icon (which means Spotify is playing from your phone) if you click it, you can choose which device to play Spotify from. Select your watch, and then there will be a watch icon. Then open NRC and start your run and you should be able to hear the coaches voice too! I hope this helps!

I had the same issues this morning with the audio feedback speaking trough the watch and not my AirPods Pro on NRC.

But I also notice that when I tried to reconnect the AirPods from control center on Apple Watch the audio feedback worked properly via AirPods. Then after a few minutes running the following audio feedback of the NRC came from the watch speaker again

This is what I’ve discovered will work: add music directly to watch. Put in AirPods. Start music from watch. Then open Nike Run Club and start your run. The music will continue and the audio from NRC will play through the AirPods. I don’t know if this will work with an app based music program or not. I tried it with the podcast app and did not work because the podcasts were not downloaded to the watch....

Hi there annfromxenia,

We understand you have a question regarding the audio from the Nike Run Club app playing through your Apple Watch speaker and not your headphones, and we'd like to see if we can help.

Are your headphones paired to your Apple Watch or your iPhone when this occurs?

If you pair your headphones to your Apple Watch, does the audio then come through as expected? Here's how: Use AirPods and other Bluetooth accessories with Apple Watch

We hope this helps!

I am having the same issue since I updated my phone and watch... the Nike run club app USED to come through my AirPods without any problems AND be able to have Spotify music playing simultaneously. However, once I updated to the new IOS I no longer get any sound from NRC except from the watch speaker itself. Did Apple make an adjustment to the new operating system to eliminate phone/watch/Spotify/NRC/AirPod compatibility? If so, PLEASE fix this because my runs have become a lot more annoying to myself and those around me (outside my 6’ radius of course)...

Hi pairing your EarPods with your watch solves the problem. Both NRC and music (I use Apple Music) can be heard in the EarPods simultaneously (music volume is automatically lowered when NRC tracker provides updates and resumes afterwards). I realize that when I next activate my EarPods they automatically reconnect to my watch. So no worries here for me and disconnecting them to reconnect to phone us a simple 2 step process so this works fine for me.

It seems other notifications will also sound in EarPods provided the related app is also installed on watch.
