Headphone Audio Super Loud (AUX Port)

My headphone audio is super loud even on the lowest setting when plugged into the aux port. When connected via bluetooth the volume is fine. The headphones I'm using don't have a built in volume control. Is there a way to adjust the volume lower than the stock setting before the device mutes?
