Error msg: must authorize using very old Apple ID no longer exists

Error msg: in order to play a few songs that I bought years ago, I must authorize them using a very old Apple ID that is no longer valid. Can I transfer songs to current ID? Not sure what recently changed. Been listening to these songs fine for years.
