sort display in "Music" on iMac

(First: how ANNOYING is it that apps are called generic things like "MUSIC" and that "Apple Music" refers both to the streaming thing & the former iTunes? This relates to what was once called iTunes.)

Is there any way to adjust the display when you sort in Music? Prior to recent versions, the sort function was very efficient, fast, and versatile: you could search any set of characters, and the display would be in what's now called "Song" format, which allowed you to sort the results by title, artist, etc.

Now, sorting is slower...and the results for an artist (say) come back sorted by album...which means if you're looking for a particular song, and you don't know what album it's on, you have to scroll endlessly. Actually, the simplest workaround is to select all the results and create a playlist, and then you can sort by title, etc., within the playlist.

The question is: is there any way to change that sorting display so it displays in "song" format? This is what the result looks like (screenshot):

Don't use that search bar at the upper left. Instead use View > Show Filter Field which causes a new, much better-behaved search bar at the upper right. In particular, if you start in Songs view the results will also be in Songs View.
