New MacBook Pro 16in Won't Boot

I just purchased a new MCP 16in and it won't boot up straight from the box. It shows a red battery logo on a black screen with a lightning bolt (indicating charging). I've left it charging for a few hours but it still continues to show the red battery. I've also tried the SMC reset but can't tell if it's actually doing anything since I can't tell if it's fully shut off. Also, while plugged in, the touch pad has feedback, but when not plugged in, there is no feedback. Any suggestions?
