apple tv not on device list

I have a 3rd generation Apple TV (OS 8.4.4 up-to-date). I have been using it for years and all was well. However, now I have subscribed to Apple TV+ and recently tried to watch the new Tom Hanks WWII movie. When I clicked on PLAY, it alerted me to a new sign-in and asked me to enter the verification code, but where do I enter it? The TV is not listed in my devices on my Apple account. When I check the ATV settings, I can see that it is connected to my wireless and also shows iCloud and iTunes as active. I have two-factor ID turned on, and have read lots of articles, but cannot seem to figure this out. Thank you in advance.

if you have an older model ATV, the code is entered onto the end of the password as one entry. Example: “password123456” then click submit

  • email- submit
  • password123456- submit

If you need more time you can have the code sent to you:

That setting isn’t in your old model ATV, look for Settings> iCloud. You are entering the code with your Apple ID which would be iCloud. Or go back to where you were when you tried the Hanks movie and it’s asking you to sign in. You will be signing in with your Apple ID , irregardless if it’s already signed into iCloud. It needs you to verify it again using the code. Enter the code as previously instructed.

Your tv isn’t listed in your device list because it’s old hardware running old software.

Where am I entering this password? The ATV is already signed in to iCloud and iTunes, and is connected to my WiFi. I went to the instructions on how to connect a new Apple TV (which I did years ago when we bought the box) and it said go to Settings: Users and Accounts. I have gone through every menu in the ATV Settings and there is nothing called Users and Accounts. I'm confused. Thank you for your help.

OK, I went to Settings on the ATV, signed OUT of iCloud, then signed in again with my password plus a just-requested, brand new verification code. That part was successful - it showed my Apple ID signed in to iCloud. I went to the Tom Hanks movie and pressed PLAY. The screen went dark for a minute or so, then said it could not access iTunes. I tried several times, and all my devices were pinging as new v-codes were being sent. It said the server could not be found, try again later. At this point, I would like to turn two-factor ID OFF, but after reading articles about that, I see that I cannot do that anymore. Apple wants me to be safe and secure, but the old hardware doesn't like it so much. I may try again later in case there really was an Apple server issue, but I think this may be a dead end. There are plenty of things to watch from other sources, so I'm not going to worry about this anymore. Thank you again for your help.

you’re welcome. Try again later and correct you cannot turn off two factor authentication. Usually once you’ve signed in, it doesn’t ask again unless you sign out or change your password.

If you have other devices to use your subscription on instead, you can do that. It’s accessible on others using the same Apple ID you subscribed with.
