Viewing movie from iPad to projector

I have connected my iPad to my new Wsky projector with my apple HDMI adapter. I am able to watch the movie on my iPad, but the minute I hook it up to the projector the Amazon movie I downloaded just shows the running circle (no error statement). I then ordered the same movie from YouTube and the error message was "something went wrong, tap to re-try".

Does this have anything to do with HDCP that I have read about? If my cable is HDCP compliant, does the projector need to be compliant as well?

iPad Air, iOS 11

HDCP requires end-to-end HDCP compliance. The compliant cable cannot assure that a non-compliant device at the other end will respect DRM.
