Can I change the format of how a name appears under the folder Icon?

Can I change the format of how shortened file names appear in folders? The default is showing the beginning and ending of a file name:

"USA Trip in November photos" shows as "USA Trip in ... Photos"

Is it possible to change the settings to show the complete file name without the contraction?

If you open one of these folders in icon view then click on View in the menubar and select Show View Option

you will see an item called Grid Spacing, if you move that to the right you increase the distance between the files

or folders and therefore with more space the more likely you are to see the full name of the file or folder.

Or again in icon view you can increase the size of the icons using the slider bottom right of the window,

enlarging the icons will increase the space available to view the entire file/ folder title.

If you use column or list view then you can just increase the width of the columns to see the full title.

Can you not see from the screenshots that the Show View Options panel as a check box for Always open in icon view,

at at the bottom there is another button that says Use As Defaults. This means that any new folders you create will have

the settings you create. Any folders you created prior to making these new settings will open with the older setting and will need changed manually.

Experiment a little, it's your mac, learn to use it.
