permission problem SMB NAS share

I have an SMB share on a NAS on my LAN. After I connect to the NAS share, amy file folder I add to the share folder is marked with the red "permission denied" tag. Does the NAS SMB-defined access share user have to match a macOS user account on my iMAC? I'm running Catalina.

When I start editing the file, Pages complains that the file is locked (the file is not open on the iMac and I have rebooted that machine just to be sure there are no dangling file handlers). When I click on the 'Unlock' button I get the You don’t have permission to unlock the file' message. I have the same user name on both machines. I access the server through afp:// but when I do Get Info on the file from my MacBook it shows smb:// . Anybody has a the same issue and was able to solve? Thanx for answering!

File sharing permission issue Hi All, I want to use my Mac mini as a NAS. It is on the newest version of Catalina 10.15.4. I set the File Sharing then choosed the folders what I want to share. Then I created users and assigned to the shared folders and set the permissions. Then I closed the settings and I recognized that everybody has full access. I went back to the Settings => Sharing => File Sharing and I can see that all permissions set back to default. My users what I added to the folders are disappeared. I added them again then closed the settings and back to default again. Tried to restart the Mac and disable/enable the File Sharing. No luck. Can somebody advice what to do? Is there any way to modify the permissions via terminal?

files share with Mac (Catalina) show up with <no access> permissions. hello, Using shared folder, and it’s somewhat working , in that my scanner and another PC on the network can drop files into the folder. The problem is the file’s permissions wind up being Nobody <read/write> and everyone <no access>. This makes it problematic for me to open/use the files, as I have to manually change the permissions every time. I have tried setting the privileges of the shared folder to r/w, then choosing apply to enclosed items, but that only affects files currently existing - not any files added after. Also in systemPreferences>sharing, in File Sharing, I’ve set administrator, my id and everyone to be R/W, and also right-clicked to app permissions to enclosed items. Ideas?

That’s a question for your NAS manufacturer. A NAS should manage its own permissions and have nothing to do with the OS or permissions on your Mac.
