I was trying this ‘tip’ - but when I try to drag two fingers down, it just causes the e-mails to scroll (as opposed to select). Am I doing something wrong?

Assuming that you are iPadOS13 - the easier method to mass select email, having already tapped select, is to simply side one finger down the left-side of the sidebar.

Thank you — This doesn’t quite work either, however it has since occurred to me, that I am using Outlook, so that may be the problem. Probably all works well in Apple Mail. Thanks for quick response.
In absence of other information to the contrary - yes, I had assumed that you were using native Apps where the described gesture is supported.
