iPad Smart Keyboard - Return key function in iMessage

When using the APPLE Smart Keyboard with an iPad (in my case a 7th gen iPad), the return key causes Messages to be sent instead of providing a new line within the message being written. This must be the case with aftermarket keyboards for the compatible iPad's too.

Using the double key entry of holding down the option key while hitting the return key does work to provide a new line entry but this is not particularly ideal. I do not see anywhere in Settings that will allow me to alter the action of the return key to just do Carriage Return instead of Send message.

This would mean the user would use the option key + return key combination to now be the strokes required to Send a message. I believe the option for Users to choose either either setting would be a welcome enhancement.
