Container disk2 Mac HD-data red

I recently updated my MacBook Pro. If I’m not mistaken it’s a early 2013 or late 2012, 15.

Roughly 2 days after install that I believe went well, it froze and restarted saying that it restarted due to an issue. Go to restart and it stuck in grey screen boot up. The Apple shows up and then my log in. So I tried logging in and it loads and loads and loads. Finally after 25 min the bar is full and it just stays there. Followed all of the steps online other then going into the ‘coding” parts. In disk utility I ran the first aids and every shows ok. I guess, I’m not sure if I just don’t know what I’m doing but the container disk2 shows Macintosh HD-data in red. Anything will help at this point. Unfortunately I haven’t backed it up in some time. I desperately need what on the hard drive. If nothing else. Is it possible to take what’s on my hard drive and transfer to an external. Delete the Catalina off of it and then fix what’s wrong with my Mac and then install older Mac OS and then reinstall what I have? Idle I think I’m being to literal. Very stressful and confusing!!

Hey there! Sorry for the troubles, hope this helps!

If you start your Mac in safe boot, does it allow you to log in? (Restart holding shift until you see the Apple logo):

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201262

If so, there’s a conflict with a third party/non-Apple app with whatever OS you installed, could be the app just needs to be updated, or possibly uninstalled.

Otherwise, is there other user accounts you can choose to log into at the login screen? That might tell us more.

And yes, If you have an external hard drive, with enough space to store your files, and your Mac requires an erase, you should typically be able to save your files before hand, as long as the hardware and security settings allow for it, just let me know, happy to help out!
