Using Airport Extreme as a Printer Server

Hi, I'm no longer using my airport extreme, but I still want to use it as a wireless print server as my printer does not support air print. I connected my extreme to another network, and attached my printer to it. My mac does not see the printer connected to the extreme. What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks for the additional information. With the Extreme connected by Ethernet, you do not want to use the "Join an existing wireless network" option. Instead, you can both disable the Extreme's wireless radios and reconfigure it as a bridge. This should allow the printer attached to it to be found on the network by clients.

AirPrint is not just a printer connected over wifi network, airprint is a generic printing interface which if the printer support it the printing instructions send by devices like iPhones and ipads will require not printing app

so you can likely use the extreme to connect to your network and share an usb printer connected to it but it will not make the printer an AirPrint printer in the eyes of ios devices

A few questions for clarification:

  1. Which exact model is your AirPort Extreme base station and what version of firmware is it running?
  2. How do you have the Extreme connected to another network ... by Ethernet or by wireless?
  3. How do you have the Extreme configured: Create a wireless network, Join a wireless network, bridge.mode, etc.?
  4. How is this printer connected to the Extreme: by wireless, by Ethernet, or by USB?
  5. What is the make &. model of this printer?

The Mac should be able to use the printer plugged into Extreme. But the main router could easily block or mess up the access.

First question. Have you previously used the printer this way?

Not all USB printers are capable of handling USB print server setup.

Second question. What is the network setup now?

Please fully describe the network you have and if the Airport Extreme appears on the network.

What OS is the Mac running?

Have you tried setting up using IPP printing .. just look it up.

You will need to set the Extreme on a fixed IP address but it is often superior in a mixed network that includes routers that don't talk bonjour.
