trackpad works as desired in guest account but not main account, what's the difference?

my trackpad allows gestures in a program (bettertouchtool) when I switched to a bare bones guest account that won't work in my main account.

I can do complete uninstall reinstall of program, which I doubt would work because it frequently updates anyway and I am on newest build, and it risks license problems, or screwing up my presets, which took me a long time to set up.

reset smc, dvram, pram (which I'm a little scared to do if it messes up my system).

but I'll try all options, but is this pretty much all that could account for the differences between regular account and guest account?
