Mid 2011 iMac - external boot drive

I have a Firewire 800 G-Drive (250GB SSD) on the way to use as my new boot drive. What I’m wondering is whether going to straight to the iMac’s FW800 port will be the fastest or connecting it to the Thunderbolt port (1) using Apple’s FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter would be slightly faster ?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.13

As long as you use a FW drive, that will be as fast as the connection can possibly be. TB1 is faster but to use it you need a TB1/2 cable and a drive enclosure that supports TB1/2 ports.
